Core Purpose

The purpose of the Illinois Nurses Association (INA), the organization of registered professional nurses, is to:

• Improve health standards and influence the delivery of safe quality health care services for all people,
• Foster high standards for nursing practice,
• Stimulate and promote the professional development of nurses and advance their economic and general welfare.
• Empower nurses and influence health policy through political action.

The Illinois Nurses Association will:

• Provide visionary leadership in government relations, health policy and nursing practice.
• Advocate for the individual health care needs and rights of the people of Illinois.
• Ensure that nurses’ viewpoints and unique perspectives are voiced and heard in the elective legislative process.
• Represent nurses and protect nursing practice in the workplace.
• Provide for continuing professional development for nurses in Illinois.
  Improve the image of the profession.
• Develop strategies that will promote membership recruitment and retention.
  Embrace new ideas and needed change.
• Facilitate unity within the Association and the profession.
• Be a prudent steward of resources entrusted by its members.
