What is INA-PAC?

As a leading advocate of healthcare and patient safety, INA demonstrates its mission of helping its members achieve a safe working environment and advocating for employee rights.  As part of that commitment, INA strives to ensure that our voice is represented on the public policy issues that affect our industry, our employees and the communities we serve.

As a leader in the fight to provide quality health care, we can and should be a leader in advocating our point of view in the political arena to help impact public policy solutions. INA identifies issues of importance to INA and then informs policymakers, Members of General Assembly and state officials to make sure that our point of view related to these issues are clearly understood.

INA-PAC is the political action committee (PAC) of the Illinois Nurses Association. Nurses who knew how important it was to advocate for nurses’ rights formed the PAC in 1985. Financial contributions to INA-PAC support elected officials who are allies of the nursing and labor industry in their re-election efforts.

How can you help INA-PAC?
The most important thing you can do right now is fill out a Solicitation Authorization Form (PDF). Then we can explain the benefits of contributing to INA-PAC in greater detail. Federal law stipulates that INA-PAC can only accept individual (i.e. personal) contributions — and we can only do so after you return the form. This form gives us permission to tell you more about INA-PAC.

INA-PAC Frequently Asked Questions
What is a political action committee (PAC)?
A PAC is formed by a group of like-minded individuals who pool their resources to achieve a common goal. A PAC raises funds within an industry to contribute to certain political candidates.

How does INA-PAC benefit INA members?
When association members combine their money into a PAC, they demonstrate a commitment to advancing their industry. INA-PAC sends a strong message to lawmakers that INA is serious about being a player in politics. It helps INA build relationships over time with officials and elect and re-elect those who support our position on key issues such as staffing acuity and violence against nurses. A contribution to INA-PAC is an investment in the future of the industry and your profession.

PACs, like political parties, are simply groups of like-minded individuals who pool their resources to achieve a common goal. INA-PAC supports candidates for office who share our basic philosophy and values. They know what issues are important to us and when critical votes on these issues arise, they vote their convictions.

I don't know anything about politics. Why should I contribute to INA-PAC?
Many nurses are too busy to be as involved in the legislative process as they would like. INA-PAC is perfect for those of us who want to support candidates who are favorable to the nursing and labor industry, but don't have the time or resources to research who the best candidates are.

Will the PAC support any candidates who favor (same sex marriage, gun control, etc.)?
INA can't guarantee that you will agree with every position on every issue that candidates supported by INA-PAC may take. What is certain is that every candidate supported will understand the concerns and interests you share with your colleagues in the nursing industry, that's the reason the PAC exists. It was not created to divide us; it was created to bring us together to work on behalf of our shared interests.

It's time to take a stand!
